2019 is about to end, so here is my personal Top 10 films of the year! Now, please note that I haven’t seen every film that has been released, so I may well have missed a few gems and there may be some omissions. Who knows, I may revisit this one day as I see more of the 2019 films… But for now, here is my Top 10 from the films I have seen. Enjoy!
10. Glass
This one divided opinion when it came out, I know a lot of people who hate it. But there was something about Glass that I really enjoyed. I liked the original, interesting story and it went in directions that I never expected which kept me on my toes. A worthy inclusion in my Top 10 list! You can check out my review here.
9. Instant Family
This was one of those films that I didn’t expect much from, at the very least I thought it would be fun. However, what I saw was a deeply moving, touching story about family that has left a lasting impact on me. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend you do! For me, it’s one of the hidden gems of 2019. You can check out my review here.
8. Le Mans ’66
An extremely entertaining, thrilling film with some excellent performances. Le Mans ’66 is well worth a watch and a worthy “Top 10” addition. I haven’t reviewed it yet, but it will be here in the near future.
7. Doctor Sleep
This sequel to The Shining really surprised me, I loved the fresh, interesting story and it had me hooked from start to finish. It’s not only a great sequel but it holds up as it’s own thing. My favourite horror film of 2019, I can’t wait for the Blu-Ray release! You can check out my review here.
6. Spider-Man: Far From Home
The final MCU outing of 2019 is fantastic fun from start to finish and a brilliant epilogue to the Infinity Saga. It’s up there with my favourite Spider-Man films, and I’m so glad that Spidey is staying in the MCU after all the drama that happened this year. Tom Holland’s version of the character belongs in this universe, and I can’t wait to see where he goes next. You can check out my review here.
5. Booksmart
This is one of those films I only saw because I had a day off work and I wanted to take advantage of my Cineworld Unlimited card… I’m so glad I did, because Booksmart is one of my favourite comedy films this decade! Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut is a hilarious, witty and original comedy that everyone needs to see! Films like this don’t come around that often and it’s a fresh take on the coming-of-age sub-genre. You can check out my review here.
4. Toy Story 4
For me, this surpassed Toy Story 3 and is the perfect epilogue to this story we’ve been blessed with over the past 20-ish years. Toy Story 4 is a highly emotional, moving, entertaining ride and a reminder that Pixar are the very best at what they do. You can check out my review here.
3. Green Book
One of the first films I saw in 2019, and still one of my favourites. Green Book won Best Picture at the Oscars and it fully deserves it in my opinion. A unique and interesting way of depicting racism and old attitudes gives us a thought-provoking, moving and very funny film that is bound to leave you with a smile on your face. You can check out my review here.
2. Avengers: Endgame
The MCU, Game of Thrones, Star Wars… All three of these massive franchises had endings to make this 2019. Thankfully, one of the three was able to stick the landing with huge success. Endgame is the perfect culmination to a saga that was over 10 years in the making. You can check out my review here.
1. Joker
But my favourite film of 2019, which won’t come as a surprise to people who know me, is Joker. This film was everything I wanted and more, with one of the best performances I’ve ever seen and a unique and interesting take on one of my favourite comic-book characters. Joker is a film I’m going to watch again and again, and I’ll never get bored of it. For me, it’s a masterpiece. You can check out my review here.
So that’s my Top 10 of 2019. What’s yours? I’d love to find out!
