It’s back to business as usual, and in this episode The Grand Tour focuses on the new breed of European pickup trucks. (Although, one of them is arguably not even European.)
I found this episode to be quite forgettable, to be honest, and apart from the odd funny moment, I didn’t find myself massively entertained, which admittedly, is rare when it comes to The Grand Tour.
It’s fair to say that the trio are immature, and that is often part of the charm. But sometimes, it veers over into the ridiculous which I think detracts from the overall humour of the show. Immaturity is entertaining in small doses and usually, it works perfectly. But this week it just seemed to go into overdrive and I found myself quite bored by the end of it, I think this is summed up perfectly by the target practice at the end of the episode, I didn’t find it amusing in the slightest, the comedy just felt extremely forced for me, and everything felt rather off this week.
On the plus side, however, the studio segments were great fun and I’m glad to see the celebrity segment has definitely been binned.
This wasn’t an awful episode, and I’m sure general audiences will find it perfectly watchable. But as someone who has been watching these guys for years, something just didn’t feel right. I’m sure it’s just a blip, for a show of such a high quality, you’re bound to find a bump in the road at some point!
I give Pick Up Put Downs a 6/10.
