Film Review: Stan and Ollie

Stan and Ollie stars Steve Coogan as Stan Laurel, and John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy, together they make the incredibly famous comedy double act, Laurel & Hardy.

The film primarily focuses on their final ever tour and it serves as a fitting, warm tribute to two of the greatest comedy performers of all time.

Coogan and C. Reilly are absolutely incredible, to the point that a lot of the time you would be forgiven if you believed you were watching the real duo. Their physicality and attention to detail is astounding and the film is worth watching based on their performances alone.

Thankfully, this is not the only thing that Stan and Ollie has going for it. At it’s core, this is a heart-warming story about friendship, and all the positives and negatives that come with it. Highlighting the burdens that come with a creative partnership adds another level to this story, which is both touching and interesting, as it shows the audience that not everything was rosy behind the scenes for the pair.

Stan and Ollie is moving, it’s fun and it is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. With a short runtime of 98 minutes, this is a perfect film to watch when you’ve got a bit of spare time and it’s definitely worth a watch.

Enjoy!

I give Stan and Ollie a 7.5/10.
